Bruins cruising

It's too early to say that this UCLA basketball team is "better" than the Bruins' squad that advanced to the 2006 national title game before losing to the Florida Gators.

But, at the same stage, it's not even close: This is a much better UCLA team than the one that was lost to Memphis in the NIT a year ago.

Jordan Farmar's ability to hit big shots and deliver the ball to teammates is going to eventually be missed.

But sophomore Darren Collison gives them so many more dimensions with his quickness, especially on the defensive end of the floor.

The Bruins return to Pauley Pavilion to play what will be a very determined Long Beach State team Tuesday night.

But they next serious challenge will come on Dec. 9 when they face nationally ranked Texas A&M in the John R. Wooden Classic in the Honda Pond in Anaheim.
