Do you want to know the match-ups in the first round of the CIF Southern Section’s top football division nearly 24 hours before they are released at the section’s Los Alamitos office Sunday?

This will be the place, if my projections of a year ago are an indication.

Last season, on the Saturday before the Division I pairings were unveiled, I projected what proved to be exactly the 16-team field, including individual match-ups.

Can I do the same thing this time around for what is now called the Pac-5 division?

Come back here Saturday to find out.

For now, with games still to be played Thursday and Friday nights, here are the 16 teams (by league) I think will make up the field:

MOORE: Poly (the league’s 1 seed), Lakewood (2), Compton (3) and Millikan (4). The pecking order is the result of projected victories by Poly (over Lakewood), Compton (over Cabrillo) and Millikan (over Wilson) Thursday night.

TRINITY: Orange Lutheran (1), Santa Margarita (2), Mater Dei (3) and Servite (4). This takes into account the projected wins by Orange Lutheran (over St. John Bosco) and Santa Margarita (over Servite). Servite is projected as the division’s one wild-card entrant.

SUNSET: Esperanza (1), Los Alamitos (2) and Edison (3). This will be the scenario assuming Esperanza (over Marina) and Los Alamitos (over Edison) collect wins this week.

SOUTH COAST: Mission Viejo (1), San Clemente (2) and Dana Hills (3). The first two spots are locks; Dana Hills gets the league’s last bid if it beats Tesoro (which is winless in league).

SERRA: Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks (1) and Crespi (2). This order will be reversed if Crespi upsets Notre Dame, which is top-ranked in the division.
