As promised in my Wednesday Press-Telegram, here are my choices to be the 20 players on the John R. Wooden Award ballot for the college basketball player of the year!

Artesia and Compton will be the "hosts" in their Tuesday night boys' basketball playoff games vs. Dominguez and Mater Dei, respectively.

Friday Night Preview

There are oodles of tantalizing CIF Southern Section boys' basketball playoff games on tap for Friday night.

Here are my predictions for some of them.

By the way . . . don't forget tune in to KDOC (Channel 56) Sunday night at 8 o'clock for a replay of the Artesia at Jordan I-AA quarterfinal. Broadcasting legend Tom Kelly will do the play-by-play, while yours truly (that's me) will provide the color commentary.

Aren't you pumped?

One heck of a player

What sad, sad news about Dennis Johnson dying so suddenly and tragically at age 52.

Boys hoops coin flips; Poly at home vs. Dominguez

The coin fail favorably for area boys’ basketball teams Saturday morning.
The Poly, Compton, Mayfair, St. John Bosco and St. Anthony coaches won flips at the CIF Southern Section office and the reward was the right to play host to second-found playoff games Tuesday night.

Rich get richer, etc.

Wow . . . USC just got a signed national letter of intent from running back/wide receiver/kick returner Joe McKnight from Louisiana, considered by some to be the best offensive prospect in the national class of 2007.

Hoopsters due back Saturday

Kejuan Johnson and Mark Dawson, suspended last week in light of an on-going NCAA investigation over possible rules violations before the pair enrolled at Long Beach State, are expected to be back in uniform for the 49ers Saturday night for the team's Big West Conference game at UC Santa Barbara.
