Cool guy alert

Saw two wonderful guys right before tip-off of the Albany-Virginia game:

Dr. Bob Maxson, the former Long Beach State president, and Pete Gillen, the former Virginia coach.

Maxson is here (wearing his LBSU sweatshirt) to support the 49ers, naturally. What an engaging and enlightened fellow.

Gillen, who I met in the late 70s or early 80s when he was an assistant to Digger Phelps at Notre Dame, was fired at Virginia two years ago.

He’s here doing color commentary for the national radio broadcasts on Westwood One.

I’d like to hear what he’s saying about his “guys” now, since he recruited most of the players now on the court for Coach Dave Leitao (himself a cool due, FYI).

By the way: Virginia 21, Albany 4, eight minutes into action.

Yikes.
