MM not LBSU bound

Apparently, speculation was running hot and heavy Friday in Long Beach that an LBSU graduate was on the verge of becoming his alma mater's head basketball coach.

But I noticed that Bob Keisser cleared up that rumor in his Saturday Press-Telegram column.

Mike Montgomery, a guy I've known for 20-plus years, told me in a telephone interview less than two weeks ago that he had "no interest" in the job. So, this now makes it the third time that I've written (either in a PT column or on the PT blog) that Montgomery would NOT because the coach at the school he picked up a couple of degrees from.

I know of three assistant coaches (Gib Arnold of USC, Cameron Dollar of Washington and Kerry Keating of UCLA), one former head coach (Dan Monson of Gonzaga and Washington) and a current Fox Sports broadcaster (Jack Haley) who have interviewed with Athletic Director Vic Cegles.

Could there be one or two other candidates whose identifies have been kept on the "hush-hush"? Nothing would surprise me.
