Long Beach State men's basketball coach Dan Monson has hired two assistant coaches and both have area ties.

Vic Couch, who formerly coaches at St. Anthony and Servite High, is joining his Minnesota boss at LBSU.

And Monson also has hired Rod Palmer, who recently resigned as the coach at Centennial High.

Palmer is a 1985 Dominguez High graduate who played two seasons at UCLA and two more at UC Irvine, where he graduated in 1990.
