The 2007 version of Fullcourt Press Hoops Classic presented by Pangos (that's a mouthful of a title for an event, eh?) gets under way Saturday at Lynwood High.
I'll be there, at some points, on Saturday and Sunday. At least that's the plan.
Branch West Reebok and The Hood are the co-favorites in the traveling team tournament, coordinated by Belmont Shore Basketball Club CEO, Wilson High graduate and Long Beach resident Dinos Trigonis.
The Hood is made up of players from what will probably be the deepest roster of quality players in California season -- the one possessed by Dominguez High, led by deep-shooting Jordan Hamilton.
The Branch West team (which won the event last year with a bunch of guys who are now either enrolled in college or trying to get eligible at prep schools) has a roster that includes a couple of players from one of the bes teams in California -- Klay Thompson and Jessie Hazely of Santa Margarita, as well as non-California standouts in juniors Colin Borchert (6-7, Mountain Ridge in Arizona) and guards Abdul Gaddy (he's already committed to Arizona) and Avery Bradley of Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma, Wash.
Play begins at 11:30 Saturday morning at the three-court facility, as it does on Sunday, when the Gold Division title game is scheduled to tip off at 5:45 p.m.
I think admission is $6, if I'm not mistaken.
