As someone (Yogi Berra) once uttered "It's not over 'til it's over".
Or something like that.
Take the Compton at Millikan football game, for example.

The Tarbabes, barring one of the more shocking second halves I've ever seen, are going to be unbeaten going into their Moore League showdown against Poly in Compton next Friday night.
The Compton Tarbabes have fumbled twice . . . but they're still up on the host Millikan Rams.
No surprises in the Moore League and, hey! Where is that Dominguez-Downey score, folks?
Yeah, you're not falling for that one ... it's Poly 24-0 at intermission.
The Jackrabbits forced a punt, got the ball back and, on their first possession . . .
I'm sitting in the Wilson High press box for the first time in . . . geez, a long, long time.
OK . . . why not?
Let me tip-toe out onto the limb about some of Friday night's high school football games . . .
Los Alamitos held on to beat Edison, 13-9 . . . that's what call a "Sunset League biggie"
I'm at Orange Coast College, where the Los Alamitos Griffins lead Edison at halftime, 6-0, in a Sunset League football game.
And, from what I just heard from the Press-Telegram sports desk (the cell phone: what a great invention), Poly leads host Millikan at intermission in a Moore League game, 14-7.
Should I offer my predictions on some of tonight's key high school football games?
How many of you care?
Why is the sky blue?
Anyway, they're on their way . . .
Sorry for the delay in posting this. I had to write the Millikan-Jordan game story (from the passenger seat of my 98 Honda Accord, while in the Millikan parking lot) Friday night and then was too fatigued (aka, "tired") when I got home.
In case you haven't guessed, it's now Saturday morning . . .
It's halftime at Millikan High and there isn't a lot of debating as to who the key player for the host Rams has been.
It's officially not summer any longer, Frank.
So why didn't I bring at least a windbreaker of sorts to the Jordan-Millikan football game tonight?
In a game that had to be seen to . . . uh, never mind that tired cliche.
Mater Dei held on to beat Centennial Thursday night in Santa Ana Stadium, 51-37.
There isn't going to better high school football game played in Southern California this season.
OK, Mater Dei has just scored, one play into fourth quarter and now leads Centennial, 44-30.
OK -- it's halftime at Santa Ana Stadium (although the official name might be "City of Santa Ana Stadium") and the top-ranked team football team in the state leads No. 2, 23-17.
Mater Dei took eight plays to cover 67 yards and score a touchdown on its first possession.
Just spent an hour and a half driving to Santa Ana Stadium for Mater Dei vs. Corona Centennial football game, pitting two best teams in Southern California.
