Los Al holds on

Los Alamitos held on to beat Edison, 13-9 . . . that's what call a "Sunset League biggie"

OK, the Griffins' "bend-but-don't break-much defense" and "two solid-drive offense" were enough to knock off the 2006 Pac-5 runner-up at Orange Coast College.

A quick spin around the rest of the area happenings:

*I have no details on Poly's 28-14 Millikan victory, other than Randall Cox, who looked like one off Southern California's most dangerous wide receivers in July, was apparently playing quarterback for the victorious Jackrabbits, who equaled the state record for cosecutive league victory (69). OK, now it's early Saturday morning and I've read Ben Villa's story in the PT. Poly ran the ball very well but turned it over five times.

*Lakewood cruised past Jordan, 48-7. The Lancers have a very, very good offense. Millikan will have to have its best game of the season in order to knock off the Lancers next Friday night, in my humble opinion.

*Dominguez smacked Gahr, 49-0. Dang. I thought the Dons would prevail, and rather handily. But, certainly, not that handily!

*Orange Lutheran 28, St. John Bosco 17: With the Lancers missing their starting quarterback (flu), this is one the Braves REALLY needed. Getting a playoff bid out of the absurdly tough Trinity League now borders on the impossible now for St. John Bosco.
