Just in case you were wondering "Is Jody Wynn's husband going to join her Long Beach State women's basketball coaching staff?" the answer is . . .

Yes, Derek Wynn -- who also spent five seasons as an assistant on the staff at USC -- will be joining his wife's 49ers' coaching staff.

I just got a text from my wife, Julie. "UNC is just too good".

That's it in a nutshell.

The halftime score of that 1990 UNLV-Duke game was UNLV 47-35.

The halftime I just watched ended with UNC smacking Michigan State dizzy, 55-34.

Ladies and gentlemen . . . we could see a record established tonight!

In fact, we just did: That's the largest lead ever after one half of a title game.

So much for home-court advantages. Everyone in this building could be wearing green and screaming for MSU and it wouldn't fazed this UNC team in the least.

It's Tar Heels, 38-18, with 7:33 to go in the first half.

Remember when UNLV beat Duke, 103-73 in the 1990 final in Denver? that was the most lopsided championship game in history. That record is going to be challenged tonight.

Ho, hum . . .

North Carolina leads Michigan State by 13 points a little more than eight minutes into tonight NCAA men's basketball championship game.

Quite frankly, so far this one has seemed about as "competitive" as the Connecticut-Louisville women's final is going to be Tuesday night in St. Louis.

The Spartans' defense can't contain the Tar Heels' half-court offense and MSU has also coughed up the ball six times.

North Carolina leads Villanova by 14 points late in tonight's second semifinal and I'm thinking it would take the greatest collapse in NCAA Final Four history on the Tar Heels' part to prevent a Michigan State-UNC championship matchup Monday night.

There I go making outrageous statements again . . .

By the way, can I mention once more that the Internet situation in building has been a headache tonight?

Connecticut cut its deficit to six points with 4:12 to go then, failed to switched a handoff and allowed a 3-pointer, then turned the ball over and gave up a breakaway layup.

It's all but over . . . Spartans by nine points, with ball, timeout, 2:22 to go . .

The Spartans have control of things and Connecticut seems fairly rattled with 4:48 to go . .

I would have written about the game earlier but Internet has not been functioning in this ungoshly large building . . .

James Harden and NBA

According to a couple of sources with insight into the situation, Arizona State sophomore James Harden will likely announce on either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week his intention to enter the NBA Draft pool.

The 2007 graduate of Artesia High and consensus first-team All-America -- a member of the Press-Telegram's 2006-07 Best in the West team and the Pacific 10 Conference Player of the Year -- could be one of the first 10 selections in the June 25 draft.

Final Four Logistics

The media room is located some 15 minutes, an elevator ride and a lot of twists and turns away from the entrance to the court area in Ford Field.

I'll be writing from court side Saturday and Monday evenings, thank you very much.

I'm in Ford Field for the Final Four "practices" (really, they are just 50-minute shoot-arounds) and press conferences.

It's cold outside in Detroit, by the way . . . supposedly it might snow Monday. Groovy.

On the University of Arizona still needs a coach front . . . the latest name I've heard involved with the job is that of Virginia Tech's Seth Greenberg, who was Long Beach State's head coach from 1990-96. If offered, I would be shocked if he didn't accept it.
