A couple of items:

*It will be announced this evening that Coach Dan Monson's Long Beach State men's basketball team will travel to Moscow, Idaho, to play the University of Idaho in a Feb. 20 BracketBuster game.

Monson is a U of Idaho graduate.

*Sophomore forward Eugene Phelps was selected the Big West Conference's Player of the Week for his performances in the team's wins over Cal State Northridge and UC Davis.

The 49ers are the first Big West (or Pacific Coast Athletic Association, as it was formerly known) program with five different players selected Player of the Week in one season.

The other starters -- Larry Anderson, T.J. Robinson, Stephan Gilling and Casper Ware -- got the honor earlier this season.
