Get ready for a Free Night of Theater

The national American theatre organization is offering up to five free tickets for the Free Night of Theater event when you sign up on a participating venue’s website, starting Sept. 9.

Performances are from Oct. 1 to 31 with shows in California, Florida, Kansas, New York, South Caroline and more.

Recording workshops at Guitar Center

Get your jam session on at your local Guitar Center. The nationwide music store is offering free recording workshops from 10 to 11 a.m. every Saturday, starting Aug. 6 and ending Aug. 27.

Here’s a bit about the “Record Made Easy” workshops from a press release:

“Record Made Easy” is broken down into five separate classes, with a different class taking place every Saturday at 10am local time at all 221 Guitar Center locations across the U.S. on an ongoing basis. If participants need a refresher, they are welcome to come back and take classes as many times as they like, and each class features a question and answer session with the on-site instructor. The week five class on online music publishing will only be available in months with five weeks.

The Introduction to Computer Recording class schedule:

– Week 1: Signal Flow and Microphone Techniques, including Signal Flow Basics; Recording Basics; Recording Vocals; Recording Electric Guitar
– Week 2: Virtual Instruments and Loops, including working with virtual (software) instruments; Working with Apple Loops
– Week 3: Effects, including working with compression, eq, reverb and with guitar amp and pedal software
– Week 4: Mixing and Publishing, including preparing a mix; Automation; Mixdown / Publishing
– Week 5: Online Music Publishing (in months with 5 weeks only), including how to use TuneCore to get music digital distributed on Amazon, iTunes and Spotify

UCLA coach hosts basketball camp

Lace up your basketball shoes and hit the court on Aug. 1 and 2. UCLA coach Jason Ludwig is hosting a free basketball camp for grades six to 12 at Santa Fe High School.

Here are the details:

The first 75 campers to sign up will receive an Adidas camp T-shirt and a basketball. The camp will also include special guest speakers including college academic counselors who will speak about education and preparing for college. This will be a unique opportunity to improve your basketball skills and, more importantly, learn about what it takes to get to college.
