Get your jam session on at your local Guitar Center. The nationwide music store is offering free recording workshops from 10 to 11 a.m. every Saturday, starting Aug. 6 and ending Aug. 27.
Here's a bit about the "Record Made Easy" workshops from a press release:
"Record Made Easy" is broken down into five separate classes, with a different class taking place every Saturday at 10am local time at all 221 Guitar Center locations across the U.S. on an ongoing basis. If participants need a refresher, they are welcome to come back and take classes as many times as they like, and each class features a question and answer session with the on-site instructor. The week five class on online music publishing will only be available in months with five weeks.
The Introduction to Computer Recording class schedule:
-- Week 1: Signal Flow and Microphone Techniques, including Signal Flow Basics; Recording Basics; Recording Vocals; Recording Electric Guitar
-- Week 2: Virtual Instruments and Loops, including working with virtual (software) instruments; Working with Apple Loops
-- Week 3: Effects, including working with compression, eq, reverb and with guitar amp and pedal software
-- Week 4: Mixing and Publishing, including preparing a mix; Automation; Mixdown / Publishing
-- Week 5: Online Music Publishing (in months with 5 weeks only), including how to use TuneCore to get music digital distributed on Amazon, iTunes and Spotify

And you thought the Lunar New Year celebrations were over. The fourth annual Nite n' Day Arts Festival will take place in Chinatown, Los Angeles, on Feb. 12.
From 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., the festival will include traditional Chinese music ensembles, Korean performance troupes, Vietnamese folk dance, Japanese Taiko drummers, Lion Dancers, Latin Jazz or funk and soul bands and more.
It is at Chinatown's Central Plaza, 943 N. Broadway. Check out the schedule.

Join other fans of the Jacksons in a free sing-along at Walt Disney Concert Hall today, June 25.
Song lovers will get the chance to sing their favorites from the Jackson 5, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson at 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. or 8 to 9 p.m.
Lyric sheets will be provided. No experience necessary. Tickets are required. One ticket will be distributed, starting at 6 p.m., per person standing in line.
The event is at the W.M. Keck Amphitheatre at Walt Disney Concert Hall, 111 S. Grand Ave. in Los Angeles.

Dozens of artists at more than 15 venues will be filling the city air with music from various genres throughout the day. And the greatest thing besides that? It's all free!

Get a little taste of Hawaii. The Americana at Brand in Glendale will be transformed into an island paradise from 1 to 6 p.m. on Sundays, June 6 and 20, with everything Hawaii.
Sample snacks and treats from the islands, listen to music from Hawaiian artists and more.
At the event, you can create your own flower lei, make palm frond crafts or get a temporary Hawaiian-inspired tattoos. There's also a chance to win a trip for two to the Hawaiian island of your choice, courtesy of Pleasant Holidays.
On June 6, vocalist and guitarist Nathan Aweau of HAPA and Grammy Award-winner Daniel Ho will perform live, as well as a "talk story" by ranger Andrea Kaawaloa-Okita on Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
On June 20, top Kauai performers Nick Castillo and Noelani Kaui will perform music and hula. There will also be music by Keoni Manuel with hula provided by dancer of Halau Hula o Na Pua o Pakipika.
Happy birthday Monterey Park! Celebrate with the city at its birthday bash this weekend until Sunday, May 16.
The carnival continues from 5 p.m. to midnight today, from noon to midnight on Saturday and from 1 to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
The Play Days parade will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday on Garvey Avenue, between Alhambra and McPherrin. It includes performances by dance groups, clowns, the Alhambra Unified School District Band and more.
