Get your jam session on at your local Guitar Center. The nationwide music store is offering free recording workshops from 10 to 11 a.m. every Saturday, starting Aug. 6 and ending Aug. 27.
Here's a bit about the "Record Made Easy" workshops from a press release:
"Record Made Easy" is broken down into five separate classes, with a different class taking place every Saturday at 10am local time at all 221 Guitar Center locations across the U.S. on an ongoing basis. If participants need a refresher, they are welcome to come back and take classes as many times as they like, and each class features a question and answer session with the on-site instructor. The week five class on online music publishing will only be available in months with five weeks.
The Introduction to Computer Recording class schedule:
-- Week 1: Signal Flow and Microphone Techniques, including Signal Flow Basics; Recording Basics; Recording Vocals; Recording Electric Guitar
-- Week 2: Virtual Instruments and Loops, including working with virtual (software) instruments; Working with Apple Loops
-- Week 3: Effects, including working with compression, eq, reverb and with guitar amp and pedal software
-- Week 4: Mixing and Publishing, including preparing a mix; Automation; Mixdown / Publishing
-- Week 5: Online Music Publishing (in months with 5 weeks only), including how to use TuneCore to get music digital distributed on Amazon, iTunes and Spotify
Lace up your basketball shoes and hit the court on Aug. 1 and 2. UCLA coach Jason Ludwig is hosting a free basketball camp for grades six to 12 at Santa Fe High School.
Here are the details:
The first 75 campers to sign up will receive an Adidas camp T-shirt and a basketball. The camp will also include special guest speakers including college academic counselors who will speak about education and preparing for college. This will be a unique opportunity to improve your basketball skills and, more importantly, learn about what it takes to get to college.

Learn a few tricks to saving money in your home with The Home Depot's free in-store workshops.
Workshops include an energy-saving class in which participants will learn to identify eco-friendly options, weatherizing the home and easy-to-install products to lower electricity and water bills. Sign up to attend the workshop from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sept. 11, 18 and 25, or to check out other workshops.

Kids, ages 3 to 8, are invited to participate in a free ballet lesson at 3 p.m. on tomorrow, March 27, at Loyola Marymount University.
The free interactive ballet workshop will introduce children to the fundamental performing arts skills, offer a chance for parents to meet and greet, and provide ballet resources.
Orientation and sign-in is from 3 to 3:30 p.m.; the workshop is from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; and a Q&A session is at 5 p.m.
The workshop is at Studio 1 in Fritz B. Burns Recreation Center at Loyola Marymount University, 1 LMU Drive in Los Angeles.

Sign-up to participate in Lowe's free Build and Grow clinic from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 27.
For this clinic, participating Lowe's stores will be teaching kids how to build a kaleidescope. Participants will receive a free apron, goggles, project-themed patch and certification of merit upon completing their project.
On April 10, kids can build a mini baseball game.
