A scream of outrage In the era of Republican take-backs

From Sunday's letters to the editor

Re "Pension initiative planned" (June 26):

From his closeness to Arnold, it is all too evident that Keith Richman is the governor's puppet, carrying on a failed campaign to punish teachers, nurses, police officers, firefighters, Caltrans workers, etc. There is nothing wrong with the Public Employees Retirement System. In fact it is 93 percent funded, and earned $29.4 billion last year (or about 15.4 percent return on investments). We only wish Social Security had such "problems."
The problem is the politicos who use Chicken Little claims: "The sky is falling" in professing "new taxes are needed to fund public retirement systems." If they would just leave them alone and pay into PERS regularly as they have agreed, the funds will do fine. Remember the millions wasted on the special election, and Keith and Arnold's four failed measures?
