Botched suicide will get you life

A man who shot and killed his estranged girlfriend in what appeared to be a botched murder-suicide was found guilty Wednesday in her 2005 slaying.

After deliberating for just a couple of hours, a San Fernando Superior Court jury found William Van Batenburg guilty of first-degree murder with special circumstances of lying in wait.

Van Batenburg, 58, faces life in prison without parole. Sentencing is set for Aug. 7.
