It was damage control by Tony Castro

according to this writer from Monday's letters

Re "Infidelity no kiss of death" (July 5):
Tony Castro's front-page attempt at damage control comes too late for Antonio. His attack on
mostly Republican politicos tries to obfuscate the issue. I think Castro forgot to mention the two adult children fathered out of wedlock with two different women before his marriage to his present wife.
His recent affair insults Catholics and morally responsible persons of all religions. Antonio has lost his privilege of being a role model for our youth. Read your own Daily News poll in the same issue, and you will see that 87 percent of 341 responses agree that Romeo Antonio's political career has been hurt irreparably.
