War of the Comics -- Day 5

I'll say this about the comics readers, they are tenacious:

I read the comics last because I like to save the best for last. The comics are no longer the best. It’s about time Zippy went away, but why the others? Please tell me they are hiding elsewhere in the paper and I just haven’t found them yet.

What next? Over the years you have taken away so much (food section,
Motorways, editorials on Saturday, antique column, and now the comics and
horoscope - not to mention that the garden column does not appear every
week). It is no longer worth it for me to crawl under the bush every
morning to retrieve the Daily News.

Well, now you have really done it! What on earth are you people doing? Don't you ever think of SENIORS? We are still alive too and want to read some sensible stuff _ as little as there is now-a days.PLEASE!!!! GET BACK TO THE U!!! WE NEED IT !!! And a sincere apology is due !!!! Otherwise-- I will never renew the Daily News (aka GREEN SHEET ) again !! That's a promise !

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Please bring Judge Parker back to teh Daily News. No respect for older readers who have long enjoyed following long-time comics, like Judge Parker in the Daily News.

Aaaaarrrgggghhhh!

Come September 7, the day my subscription expire, if the comic strips are not back as they were before, on September 8, at 9 am, I will go to the office of Daily News and tell them to cancel my subscription. See you soon.

Tom Austin said:

Agree, major changes were NOT necessary. Return some of the oldies but goodies. It was differentiated the Daily News comics from the Times. For the better.

Please bring back Judge Parker and Funky Winkerbean. Thanks!

PLEASE bring back U Magazine AND the comics that it had. Do not like the new comics!!!

Jackie Houchin said:

Well, Daily News... Are you going to respond to all this mail about your changes in the comics? Or are you sitting quietly in your offices calmly waiting for the mail to stop coming in. Are you thinking to yourselves, "Oh, they'll get used to the new comics and forget the old ones. The hoopla will die down soon." How dare you treat your readers this way. I don't even look at the new La.com insert anymore. Why? There's nothing there, and like a lot of other readers, it (especially with the comics) used to be the "dessert" reading of the morning, as I finished my last cup of coffee. Not anymore.
How are you going to respond? What is your "comment" FOR US?

Annie Miller said:

I'm so disappointed. The U section was my "cup of coffee" because of the comics. I was totally involved in Funky Winkerbean and the cancer story as well as in For Better or for Worse, and in Judge Parker. They are so meaningful to your middleagers. Where can I find them now? I'd like to subscribe to that paper. I dislike their replacements (F-minus deserves it, Diesel Sweeties is meaningless, and the others are moronic to me) - they don't tug at my life or my sense of "comics". They certainly don't make me laugh. I obviously am not the only one to be upset. Get me back my "friends"!!!!!!

Jean Wilbar said:

Here, here. Please bring back Judge Parker, Hagar, Funky and For Better Or For Worse. Some of the new ones leave ALOT to be desired. Please undue this mess. Please.

KB Edwards said:

I agree with Inge Kask who begged you to think of the seniors who may not want to/or be able to go the the internet to get their news and articles previously shown in the U section. Perhaps we should get ALL of our news from the internet, but then, we wouldn't need to have a subscription to your paper, would we??? We're getting ready to cancel our subscripton if you insist on ignoring our pleas.

Sunny Reinhart said:

Well I had cancelled but if the U page is brought back to normal and the real comics return--Mallard-Funky and Dinette set-may reorder and what's funny or even interesting about Diesel Sweeties and Born Losers(about as dull as Rose is Rose....

Totally baffled as to why so many entertaining and meaningful comics were dumped with no comment. Amazed at the consistantly poor quality of the replacements. They make Zippy look first quality and hardly confusing at all.

well the comics stink now what are you going to do when the most readers you have are seniors. who's going to pay your salary know? remember your biggest customers are the older group----don't forget!the young are into electronic news not paper news!
