Arellano A Rosa Parks Pleeeeeeezzzzz!!!!

| | Comments (2) |

I'd like to get a whiff of whatever the spinmaster that had the gall to try to compare Elvira Arellano to civil rights icon Rosa Parks smoked. Arrellano was an illegal immigrant that victimized the system by being here illegally and whipping up public opinion to back her illegal act.

Parks was an American citizen (with roots that stretched down through generations) that the system victimized by Jim Crow segregating her, and thereby denying her what every American citizen took as their birthright- the right to dignity and equality. Fortunately, the dismal turnout for Saturday's lame excuse for a demostration backing Arellano was fitting and showed that few others bought the insulting comparison.

I believe that John Walker Lindh has been unjustly imprisoned and should receive a pardon as soon as possible. Given the climate this country was in after 9/11, I was a coward for not speaking out to this injustice. I first saw John on a stretcher, wounded, on a CNN broadcast and believed then as I do now, that John was a very holy person who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The injustice already done to this young man is appalling. This was truly a case of "mob rule".

Ms. Parks was a huge part of fixing this country when it was terribly broken, when the opposition was incredibly scary (racist South... Yikes!!)

The way I see it, the only way Elvira can consider herself anywhere near as important and heroic is to look at her own country (Mexico) and demand changes - refuse to accept her circumstances and be unafraid of the consequences.

What Elvira has done - lie, cheat, steal, manipulate (using her son as a political pawn), sneak and demand changes in our country...that's easy. We are often overly generous and forgiving people. And as much as our govt. needs improving - it ain't Mexico.

If she were a real heroine, she'd stand up to the most frightening circumstances (as those in the Civil Rights movement had), demand better for her people and be willing to risk everything for it.

Because no one demands better of Mexico, not only are Mexicans suffering, but so are we.

Until Elvira faces down the thugs of Mexico, she's a coward.
