California neglects its children, and other opinions from DN's sister papers

The Daily News' sister papers far and wide across this great state also have fabulous opinion pages. Here's a sampling of some of their California views today:

The San Jose Mercury News notes that that the state takes terrible care of its children:

The future of California is tied to the well-being of its children, then the state has great cause for concern.

California dropped another notch - from 18th to 19th - in national rankings of how states are caring for their children.

The overall ranking is slightly above average. But a state with California's riches should be setting its sights much higher than slightly above average. Especially since states such as Minnesota (ranked No. 1), neighboring Oregon and rival New York rank ahead of it.

The Long Beach Press-Telegram explains how Southern California Edison's plan to spend $1.9 billion on new meters will, ultimately, save users money.

The Daily Breeze, of south L.A. County, berates Congress and the White House for its nearly $9 trillion debt.
