Robbers Impersonate Deputies -- to the Last Detail!

Jason Kandel has quite a story in today's Daily News about a couple who, impersonating L.A. County Sheriff's deputies, have been detaining Valley pedestrians and robbing their money:

The man and woman have targeted four people in the Valley since July 19, swiping about $2,000, police said.

None of the incidents have been violent, but the suspects - complete with khaki get-ups, badges and caps that say "sheriff" - pat down victims and go through their pockets, taking cash and whatever else they can find.

The impersonations have reportedly been so spot-on, that after collecting the money, these impostors promptly donated it so Sheriff Baca's campaign, then got promotions! (rim shot)

The Sheriff is elected, and Police Chief Bratton is appointed. Shouldn't the same method be used for both? If yes, which would be the better method?
