"Speaking of Ontario...any comment on Mirthala?"
That was the rather weak, but humorous segue used by a reporter at Mayor's Antonio Villaraigosa's press conference this morning on air traffic regionalization with the Mayor of Ontario and a SanBerdoo county supervisor that most everyone went to on the chance he would say something about his girlfriend getting reassigned to her station's Riverside bureau -- the journalistic equivalent of Siberia. (This is not just L.A. snobbery. I worked at the Riverside Press-Enterprise for three years in the 1990s. I know of what I speak.)
"I do not have any comment," Antonio said. And that was that. After that weird segue, no one could think of a way to pester him anymore or ask whether he would be visiting out there in the Inland Empire.
