The water saving re-education begins...

Must not flush...must tear out tropical garden in side yard...succulents are pretty....must...not...flush.
The reeducation of water-wasting Californians in the face of a hot, dry future ahead has begun. The Association of California Water Agencies announced today that it's launching a TV ad called "Water Crisis."
The television ad features images of the Delta, where a deepening crisis threatens the water supply of tens of millions of Californians and a critical eco-system. The disastrous consequences facing Californians are described in the ad’s narration: “…the Delta — hub of our water storage and delivery system — can’t withstand a major earthquake or Katrina-type flood, a fact that threatens 25 million residents with massive water shortages for up to two years.”
Hope they're counting on more than a few dry lawns and less flushy behavior to deal with water rationing. Agriculture and industry, not to mention the thousands of golf courses, are huge water wasters. Here's a slogan they could use: "Save California! Boycott golf!" Wonder how many water agency officials will give up their 18 holes for the cause.

Still, the golf course owners would continue to use ungodly amounts of water to keep their courses green until the golfers returned.
There seem to be two choices:
1. Dig up the grass and replace it with artifical turf, thereby pitting the "greens" vs. the water conservationists.
2. The governor could appoint the owners of the largest golf courses to chair a committee that would promote voluntary conservation, and design a mandatory rationing plan that they would follow in the event that one is needed. In this way, smaller users (just about everyone else) wouldn't have a gripe.
Mayor Bradley did this during the drought in the '70s. The chair of the committee that designed a mandatory water conservation plan was the head of Forest Lawn.
