Its all George Carlin's fault

| | Comments (2) |

This clip is from Carlin's HBO Special "Life is worth losing." The finale is a riff on a small crisis that turns into a mega monster fire that consumes the Earth. Considering what's going on in the world outside, it's been resonating in my mind since Sunday.

"thounsands of identical homes burn in identical fires.."

Well, that was about as enjoyable as drinking a Drain-o cocktail.

As a child growing up with hippie parents in San Francisco (Hey, I know it sounds like a schtick, but it's where I get my perpesctive), I grew up watching Woody Allen films and listening to George Carlin comedy albums. Most of it was over my head (the references to Nietzsche, for example). But I grew to revere Carlin's humor.

I even thought about getting Carlin tickets recently. Glad I didn't.

Where once he was cynical, he's now just a dark, hunched, mass of fear.

It wasn't fun, funny, fun-like, fun-sized...It wasn't deep. It wasn't intellectual. Just sad.

Now I know why I like comedian Brian Regan so much. These days, I like to enjoy getting away from fear-ridden whiners as often as possible. Sometimes I just want to laugh.
