Fires return to Malibu

| | Comments (3) |

malibufire.jpgThe fires are back, and your Daily News crew is busy gathering comprehensive coverage. We're up to 49 homes destroyed in the Corral Fire. According to an update just now on TMZ.com, the home of Red Hot Chili Peppers' bassist Flea, which was reported earlier as lost in the blaze, was in fact not burned down. Flea, a former member of the Los Angeles Junior Philharmonic Orchestra and Fairfax High grad, established the nonprofit Silverlake Conservatory of Music that gives a hand to young musicians. There are also reports that Axl Rose's house was damaged.

Twice today this story has been reported incorrectly.

First, the LA Times reported that his $10 million dollar home, that he recently purchased, had burned.

That was not correct.

What is correct is that a home of his in Malibu on Sycamore Meadows DID burn. But he has not lived in that home for awhile. He's been trying to sell it for almost a year.

So, in short, a house of his DID burn. It just wasn't the house he lives in or the one that the Times mentioned.

My husband works with Flea and we are familiar with the home that did burn.

Either way it's very sad; But, unlike the stories alluded to - he did not have to flee (no pun intended) nor were his family or posessions in danger.

Unfortunately, he did have a friend renting there with a newborn baby. They are safe. Other than that I will shut up because it's really not my business. But I did want to clarify the incorrect news.

Thanks for the info, Michele! Glad to hear everybody's safe. I've always liked Flea. Not just because the Chili Peppers rock, but how he's helped out other musicians.

Bridget,

Flea's a sincerely good guy. The Silverlake Conservatory is not only for young musicians, but young musicians who may not be able to afford to be involved in music due their economic status. Flea is very involved in raising funds for the Conservatory so those children are exposed to music, too.

My daughter took guitar lessons at the Silverlake Conservatory. The rates for all children are very reasonable. Plus, her teacher was fantastic. Even from the Valley, the classes are worth the drive.
