An unlikely feminist hero

"This is America, and every woman can walk through every door of opportunity." (at minute 2:17)

This wasn't one of talked about comments from Gov. Sarah Palin's vice presidential acceptance speech last night. But it struck me as refreshing, and different. Remember the old class of Republican women, the Phyllis Shlafly types who were more about women supporting the men than sisters doing it for themselves? What might they think about t this tough and gritty politician whose clearly more exciting than her running mate? For that matter what would they think of Carly Fiorina, the party chair? They times they sure are a'changing.

Sarah Palin might not win (I don't believe that democrat women will vote the McCain ticket just because the VP candidate is a woman), but she definitely is going to have an affect on the Republican party. And because of that, she is certainly a feminist hero, though I imagine she would hate that label.

Maybe it has to be that way, that the woman to shatter the glass ceiling leading to the White House must be conservative. Democrats have enough strikes against them, what with their bleeding hearts for the downtrodden, their bitterness of people who've amassed obscene amounts of wealth by exploiting the middle and working class and their multi-colored, many-ethnic'ed tolerant base. But a democratic woman? Perhaps that's too many strikes for the non-urban voter to take.

Ah, yes, this is the theory that: Only Nixon could go to China because his anti-commie cred couldn't be challenged. Also I should note that the British Conservatives put up Margaret Thatcher, a woman of iron will, not the sensitive and egalitarian folks from Labour. You could be all too right--and she is definitely way too right (wing)

And how did Teddy Kennedy, Dianne Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, Bill and Hillary Clinton get their wealth? They got their wealth by overpaying their employees and making them all upper-middle class society members?

Please!! It's just more progressive dribble from the product of a left-wing university system (including this graduate of CSUN).

Much more of it and I will cancel my subscription to the Daily News. Especially since I can get most of the "news" off the website for free!

Huh? A left-wing university system? I never heard anyone refer to CSU as that. UC maybe, particularly Berkeley.

Also, if you're trying to impugn me, Greg, then it would help to use true facts. I have never attended CSUN, let alone graduated from it.

My quote was "a left wing university system." San Francisco State is a part of the CSU just like Northridge. And having been employed at two campuses of the CSU and working with Presidents and Faculty Advisors at others, the CSU is definately not "right wing."

Mariel and Jonathan: Like it taking Nixon to go to China, I often suspect that a Colin Powell would have been a stronger black candidate than Obama, given war credentials and relative conservatism in other areas.

I do find it funny how GOP delegates were railing yesterday about the horrible "sexism" of the media. Yep, they've had a long battle for many years against those misogynist commies in the MSM.
