Slow down on the "S" word.

| | Comments (4) |

I've been puzzled, even stunned, to see so many people use the "S" word to criticize Obama lately: "Socialist."

Even moderate friends, even progressive vegan friends, have been using the "S" word, and not as a compliment.

When I ask others how they define socialism, they say, "heavy governmental control."

What, then, is the Bush administration's approach? See here for breaking news.

Everyone believes in heavy governmental control these days, as a practical matter. Even the GOP is trying to pin the blame on Dems for not (!!!) regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac enough.

True socialism, however, is an economic approach in which there are no winners or losers, no rich and no poor. Do people really think Obama is willing or able to push through such an agenda?

The creep of socialism is alive and well and incrementalism is its manure.

Based upon the Senator's response to the plumber earlier this week saying he should pay more taxes for those below him so those can have the same chance the plumber has, the Obama is a socialist tending towards a Marxist.

Then again, if 35 percent or so of all "taxpayers" are not paying federal income tax, then how can he give 95 percent of the public a tax cut? Unless we are going to give money to those who do not pay taxes, then the 95 percent figure is not accurate. Or in other words....a lie.

If Obama is elected "SAY HELO TO SOCIALISM".

You guys seem to be forgetting that the tax code in past decades was hardly different from what Obama is suggesting. Please, was that some sort of horrific Marxist Age in American history? Conservatives, in fact, seem to call them Good Old Days.

Sorry, I don't buy your worries here. Incrementalism? So voting for Obama in '08 will keep us from incrementally and inexorably moving to socialism over the next generation? Your fear-mongering is tired.
