Say What, Nobel Peace Prize Committee?

| | Comments (0) |

It's getting so you can't trust anything anymore. First it was the United Nations. Then it was the banking and regulation industry, and now it is the Nobel Peace Prize selection committee. What's next, Oprah?

Granted that some of the committee's selections have been sound: Henry Kissinger, Mother Teresa, Shimon Peres, Yitzhak Rabin, Elie Wiesel and the Quakers of the UK, for example. But some make them sound like they have been smoking something funny with the likes of Kofi Annan, who was not exactly unbiased during his run as Secretary-General of the UN, and Yassir Arafat, who robbed his people, defected to Paris and almost single handedly brought them down.

Add Barack Obama to that list, who nearly a year ago was a virtual unknown, and the scales start to tip away from them.

Somewhat to his credit, Obama said that he doesn't think he deserves the award but will accept it anyway. There's modesty for you. Obama still needs time to ripen and grow as a politician. He still needs time to do more than pose for pictures and look royal, dignified and godly.

If he accepts that award, his credibility will drop more quickly than you can say, "Who me? Why you shouldn't have."
