A contrarian's guide to profiling

| | Comments (4) |

Regarding the dilemma of airport profiling, let me go back to a piece from the rival paper that I wrote back in 2002. With some qualifications, i still stand by the basic premise. But having been profiled up and down in Israel in 2006, I find that it's easy for profiling to become obnoxious, which is why I don't much want to go again to Israel anytime soon.

I agree, I wouldn't go to Israel either. Waste of money, not mention risking your life.

Israel has to do that for security reasons. Rather than bashing Israel, why not turn to the countries and people that make them have to take those measures?

Gail's point is both valid in a court of law and beside the point. Yes, Israel is responding as it feels appropriate to threats. But Israel also eagerly recruits tourists, then finds ways to convince them not to enter or to ever come back.

I was searched there as well, Rob and with light eyes and skin, I am about as Ashkenazi looking as they come. I didn't mind and understood the reasons behind it. If it is for security, then I'm all for it, right down to my eyebrows.
