Mysterious traffic

That's the topic of a story today by the DN's Brent Hopkins. I was in that traffic jam Monday, though as a passive rider on the "freeway flyer" bus. While all those drivers fumed, I dozed, read the paper, and looked out the window. Here's what I saw: 95 percent of the cars, even the enormous ones with 15 passanger seats, have just the driver in them.

Not such a mystery to me why the freeways are jammed. Accident or no, there are too many damn cars on the road. It wouldn't be so bad if eveyone was in skinnier cars like you seen in Europe. But so many people are driving huge tanks or spacious family sedans with only a cell phone for company. That's why traffic is slow.

I always had Green leanings, but this bus thing might make a full tree-hugger out of me yet. Make room for me up in that tree, Daryl Hannah.
