Councilman Patrick O'Donnell, an advocate of the breakwater study and reconfiguration efforts, is spearheading the events, which are free and open to the public.
The first event, "Big Thursday," will be a breakwater film exhibit and awards ceremony with food, drinks and music at the Shelter Surf Shop on Fourth Street's Retro Row, May 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 2148 E. Fourth St.
"The night will be an informal gathering for Breakwater advocates, some of whom will be honored for their work in bringing attention to the need for improving our ocean water quality," O'Donnell said.
On May 21, O'Donnell will host a paddle out from the Granada Landing to commemorate the breakwater's affect on wave and tidal activity.
Local surfers and residents are encouraged to bring their surfboards and paddle out as a group in support of reconfiguring the breakwater, May 21 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the beach at Ocean Boulevard and Granada Avenue.
The events will culminate in a community meeting at Ecco's Pizza on Bellflower Blvd. where Tom Modica with the city's government affairs office will provide a review and update of the reconnaissance study, May 25 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Ecco's Pizza, 2123 N. Bellflower Blvd.
These events are free and open to the public. For more information, call 562.570-6918
