California Rolls Out Green Building Database
The California Department of General Services has rolled out a first-of-its-kind statewide database of green buildings in the state of CaliforniaThe database uses an online map to view all of the buildings across California that are meeting the standards announced by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2004. Those standards include:
All new construction for state facilities be built to LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) standards
Having any existing state building with more than 50,000-square-feet of space reach LEED certification.
The map identifies state-owned buildings that are undergoing, or are scheduled to undergo, energy efficiency upgrades; a process also referred to as retro-commissioning.
The initiative requires the state to reduce grid-based energy usage in its buildings 20% by 2015, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
