Sitting at home on Wednesday night I get a call from the photo editor, "THERE IS A HIGHRISE ON FIRE AT OCEAN AND TEMPLE, PEOPLE ARE JUMPING OUT OF THE WINDOWS, CAN YOU GO?" Of course I Can! As I arrive I see the fire is out, but fellow photographer Stephen Carr has been there for about a half hour and has pictures with flames! In the picture above: smoke rises from the 18th floor of the Galaxy Towers on Ocean Boulevard. A tenant on the floor jumped to his death, according to Long Beach Fire Department officials. I'm sure Doctor Evil's cat would be proud of Downey firefighter Zach Neilsen as he gets his head shaved at Station 1 on March 17, 2007. He joined 18 other men who volunteered for the crew cut for the St. Baldrick's Foundation to help raise money to find a cure for pediatric cancer. The firefighters raised over $15,000 in donations.
