He has won numerous state and national awards, including an international NPPA Best of Photojournalism award in 2003 and Best News Photo from the Los Angeles Press Club in 2010. I was on a jetty fishing in Long Beach when I heard this loud explosion. I also saw U.S. Navy personnel on boats mounted with M-60 machine guns. Thought there was some sort of terrorist incident.
