I think my uncle, Harold Sloan, had a pawn shop at that intersection, at about that time
These trips down Memory Lane are absolutely fascinating. The Pacific Electric Red Car system was the technological marvel of its age, and we should rightly mourn its passing. There's a whole documentary on DVD called Los Angeles, The Early Days detailing the rise (and fall) of the Red Cars, and it's filled with then-and-now shots, and there's even a trailer you can download at LAtheEarlyDays.com -- it even has an old-time wax cylinder music score!
