PHOTOS: Marshalls opens at former Roberts site in Bixby Knolls

Redevelopment Agency, holding ribbon in white and blue shirt, celebrate the grand opening of a Marshalls at the Bixby Knolls Shopping Center in Long Beach, Calif. on August 5, 2010. Marshalls, together with T.J. Maxx, form the largest off-price retailer of apparel and home fashions in the U.S. The store is located at the site of the former Roberts Department Store building. The 52,000 square foot building was demolished last October after sitting vacant for more then a decade. The Long Beach RDA provided a $3.7 million loan, at 2 percent interest, to GGF, LLC., the owners of the property to get Marshalls in to the center. The store employees 80 people. He covered destruction Hurricane Katrina brought to Long Beach, Mississippi and traveled to Southeast Asia to document a rural Cambodian girl's as she traveled to the U.S. for life-altering heart surgery. He has won numerous state and national awards, including an international NPPA Best of Photojournalism award in 2003 and Best News Photo from the Los Angeles Press Club in 2010.
