For the last few months our entire newsroom, except the sports department, has been working on a magazine to commemorate the 100th. anniversary of the Port of Long Beach. The 100-page, full-glossy, publication will be in tomorrow's home delivered newspaper. For this story I spent the day with Tony Melendez, a truck owner/operator. The pay isn't great, and the trucks are expensive - but he says he likes that he sets his own hours and works close to the new house he just purchased. See more pictures>>

Zerby was killed by police in December 2010 when uniformed officers were responding to an emergency call about a man wielding a gun in the Belmont Shore neighborhood of Long Beach, Calif.
