LONG BEACH, CALIF. USA -- Dara Pung looks around the living room of his apartment in the 1000 block of Stanley Avenue in Long Beach, Calif. after a fire on September 27, 2011. Pung lives at the one-bedroom apartment with his wife and daughter. According to the Long Beach Fire Department; The fire started around 9 A.M. and the damage is estimated at $100,000. A 35 year-old woman suffered minor injuries to her hands and was transported to the hospital. Arson investigators are examine the damage for a cause. See more pictures>>

LONG BEACH, CALIF. USA -- Third grader Sara Williams, center, joins her class as they listen to Lowell Elementary School teacher Pam Parkins read called "The Man Who Walked Between the Towers" on September 8, 2011, in Long Beach, Calif. The book is about Philippe Petit's high-wire walk between the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, New York, on August 7, 1974. The last page of the book simple states, "Now the towers are gone". LONG BEACH, CALIF. USA -- The "Plastiki", a large catamaran built from 12,000 soda bottles, sits off the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier in Long Beach, Calif. on September 1, 2011.

he Plastiki is back in Long Beach after an 8,000 nautical-mile voyage across the Pacific to Australia by environmentalist and adventurer David De Rothschild. De Rothschild, 31, set off in March to call attention to ocean pollution and nudge individuals and corporations into changing their use of plastic and other materials.

Rothschild and a 5-member crew sailed the strange-looking 60 foot vessel up

SEAL BEACH, CALIF. USA -- Gail Benford, mother of missing swimmer Joe Benford, of Long Beach, walks along Surfside Beach in Seal Beach, Calif. on September 1, 2011. Her son went missing in the surf yesterday evening. Benford said her son is an excellent swimmer but usually prefers the pool. She also said she suspects foul play. See more pictures>>
