20090707-armada.jpgOk, ok, ok. so it's not 'the' Michael Jackson, just an impersonator. He performed at the game between innings because it was Michael Jackson Remembrance Night at Blair Field. Not only was there an faux MJ, but when it came time to play the National Anthem it was a recording of the Jackson 5 from 1970. Also, Arby I, the team's mascot, was wearing one glove.

Poly High's Ricky Johnson (4) high-steps in to the end zone as he outruns Compton's Benjamin Maluia (39) during their Moore Leage game in Compton, Calif. Before the game Compton was undefeated this season - but Poly had more riding on it - their 13 year winning streak. That's right, the last time they lost a league game was in 1994. Tonight was no different, final score: Poly 47 - Compton 14.

Really no story here - I just like the moment I found when I got to the game. Ultimate Fighter

20070918-PS20-HARRYMAN01-JG.jpg

Old-timer street fighter/boxer Jimmy Harryman took a swing at me! Yes, it's true. I Show up tp take his picture, he dons the glove and comes within in an inch of my face - then laughs. This guy, now in his 70s, was one of the original street fighters - he told me he learned to fight when he was growing up in Compton. The big C was a bit different then - but apparently still a rough place and it also seem Harryman was a tough guy. He was a San Pedro longshoreman that was coined "King of the Street Fighters," He also played football for the Chicago Bears and played rugby. His football career earned him JC All American honors at Compton College, a scholarship to the University of Washington.

For the first time the American LeMans Series is part of the bevy of races that make up the Grand Prix of Long Beach. The race differs from the Champ car by having four different types of cars on the track at the same and allowing two drivers per car - not at the same time. The drivers rotate during pit stops. click here to see an audio slideshow about LeMans>>

This stage of the Tour of California bike race went 105 miles from Santa Barbara, through the mountains, to Santa Clarita (Magic Mountain). For this section I was shooting from the back of a motorcycle, weaving in and out of mountain roads, the support vehicle and the riders themselves. At times we were so close to the races I could have extended my arm an knoced them to the ground. Click here to see more pictures>>
