Good power, bad reliability

| | Comments (0) |

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has few complaints about the power in his engines at Dale Earnhardt Inc. When his engines have been good, they've been really good.
But their reliability has been a little sketchy. Blown motors and engines failures have led to some poor finishes and is a reason why he is 13th in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series standings with two races to go before the Chase starts.
"They have been making great power and I keep praising them the best I can on the TV," said Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet for Dale Earnhardt Inc. "When they are sitting at home, like this weekend, they hear us on TV talking about the motors, I have always told the truth, they have found some great power this year."
General Motors came out with a new engine for its Cup teams this year. Earnhardt Jr. said the new engine combined with using unleaded fuel for the first time in Cup competition created some scenarios that his team wasn't aniticipating.
"We broke a couple motors early in the year and then here lately and that was pretty crucial at times," Earnhardt Jr. said. "It was unfortunate at times, but when they are together, they are fast."
