Hall of Fame Racing adds partners
Jeff Moorad, the general partner and chief executive officer of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Tom Garfinkel, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Diamondbacks, have acquired controlling interest of the Hall of Fame Racing team in NASCAR.
Hall of Fame Racing is owned in part by Troy Aikman, former quarterback of the UCLA Bruins and the Dallas Cowboys. The team is also owned in part by Roger Staubach, Bill Saunders, Paul Whitman and Mark Griege.
Moorad is also the founder of Moorda Sports Management and represented Aikiman during his NFL career.
"Jeff has been a positive influence for me throughout my career and has been successful in whatever he's done," Aikman said. "And Tom is certainly an impressive individual with a unique blend of sigfnificant business acumen and racing experience."
Hall of Fame Racing fields one car in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. The team's No. 96 Chevrolet is driven primarily by Tony Raines. Terry Labonte has also raced the team's car this year. Hall of Fame Racing is 26th in the Nextel Cup Series owners standings.
"We spoke with several teams and decided that Hall of Fame has assembled a special group of people and created a foundation for success that we hope to help build on," Moorad said. "You win with people, and we want to add resources and opportunity for the people who are here."
