Ganassi drops Franchitti

The Sporting News is reporting that Chip Ganassi Racing is suspending operations of Dario Franchitti's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team. Franchitti will not be racing in Saturday night's Cup race at Daytona International Speedway.
According to The Sporting News, the team cited a lack of sponsorship funding for the reason why it is shutting down the No. 40 car.
The team will continue to operate the teams for Juan Pablo Montoya, in the No. 42 car, and Reed Sorenson, in the No. 41 car.
The team also said it is committed to continuing Franchitti's development as a NASCAR driver. It is considering expanding Franchitti's involvement in the Nationwide Series.
