| | Comments (0) |

Carl Skerlong, driver for Oxnard-based Pacific Coast Motorsports in the Atlantic Series,
crashed during a test session Tuesday at Road Atlanta in Georgia and suffered a concussion. He will not race in the season finale this weekend at Road Atlanta.
Skerlong is fourth in the Atlantic Series standings, won his first Atlantic Series race in New
Jersey in September and had two poles and seven top fives in his rookie season.
"I was so excited to fight for a top-three finish in the championship this weekend," Skerlong said. "I am quite sore from the accident but not being able to race is much more painful." Skerlong's teammate Frankie Muniz will race this weekend at Road Atlanta.
Jonathan Bomarito, driver for the Encino-based Mathiasen Motorsports, leads the Atlantic Series standings.

If Bomarito, coming off a sixth-place finish at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah over the weekend, can hold on to his lead in the standings, it will be the first Atlantic Series championship for Mathiasen Motorsportts, owned by Ray and Leslie Mathiasen of Encino.
The top-three drivers, Bomarito, Jonathan Summerton and Markus Niemela, in the Atlantic Series standings are separated by 10 points.
The Atlantic Series season finale is Oct. 2-3 at Road Atlanta in Georgia.

Pacific Coast Motorsports wins Atlantic Series race

Carl Skerlong, driving for the Oxnard-based Pacific Coast Motorsports, won his first Atlantic Series race for the team. He won the inaugural Atlantic Series race at New Jersey Motorsports Park on Sunday.
Skerlong is fifth in the Atlantic Series standings, one point out of fourth and 17 out of third.
It was Skerlong's fourth podium finish of the season. The next race for the Atlantic Series is at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Sunday.
"I am so excited to get back in the car," Skerlong said. "The win last weekend gives us a lot of momentum heading into Miller Motorsports Park this week. The track there is awesome, but it is so long that you have to be precise and it will be important to get the car dialed in very quickly, because one mistake or one bad lap costs so much time. Our sessions are not that long, so every lap counts. I am looking forward to it."

Record day for Mathiasen Motorsports

Jonathan Bomarito, driving for Encino-based Mathiasen Motorsports, set the track record in qualifying Saturday for the Atlantic Series race at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres in Quebec, Canada.
He turned a lap on the 1.521-mile street course in 58.989 seconds (92.824 mph) and broke the mark set by current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver A.J. Allmendinger in 2003.
It is the third pole position of the season for Bomarito and the fourth of his Atlantic Series career. He earned six points for winning the pole and moved into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Series standings, six ahead of Canadian James Hinchcliffe.
"What an amazing session, really," said Bomarito, who drives the No. 26 entry for Ray and Leslie Mathiasen of Encino. "We had it pretty much mapped out before we even went out and we stuck to the game plan. We made a good change on pit lane. It was a perfect session. I can't thank the guys enough."
The race in Quebec is the eighth of the 11-race Atlantic Series season. Bomarito has two wins this year and the past nine pole winners have won at Trois-Rivieres in the Atlantic Series.
"The whole Mathiasen Motorsports team is amazing," Bomarito said Saturday after qualifying. "We've got Atlantic legend Dave Empringham here working with us this weekend. It's really good to finally work with him on a race weekend. It's just been a lot of fun. We're enjoying it, we've got great momentum and we're looking forward to a good race tomorrow."
