Schools chosen for JK Rowling Open Book Tour
Students from 10 schools in the San Fernando Valley were chosen to attend the J.K. Rowling Open Book Tour at the Kodak Theatre on Oct. 15.
Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, is making a three-city tour in the United States to read from "The Deathly Hallows" and discuss the final book in her Harry Potter saga.
The students who will be able to attend the book reading are from:
Panorama High School
Canoga Park High School
Nobel Middle School
Nestle Elementary School
Encino Elementary School
Lewis Continuation High School
Arleta High School
Maclay Middle School
Van Nuys Middle School
Herrick Elementary School
There were 40 schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District chosen to attend the book reading.
Scholastic, the U.S. publisher of the Harry Potter books, also announced that the company will be donating 5,000 copies of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone," the first book in Rowling’s series, to the LAUSD for students who have not yet read the books.
“The Open Book Tour is a chance for Ms. Rowling to spend time with some very important people — the kids who love Harry Potter,” said Francie Alexander, Chief Academic Officer for Scholastic. “Scholastic is passionate about putting books into the hands of children and with this gift of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone" we are honored to introduce a new generation to the series that created millions of young, enthusiastic readers.”
