Rowland Unified will hold a community meeting on Tuesday, May 6, to discuss the $5.8 million in potential reductions that need to be made for the 2008-09 school year because of the governor’s budget. The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. at Rincon Intermediate School, 2800 E. Hollingworth St., West Covina.

“As soon as the governor announced his plan to cut $4.5 billion from public education, we took immediate steps to reduce spending at all offices, including not filling vacant positions,” said Superintendent Maria Ott. “For the past two months, I have been meeting with my Superintendent’s Budget Advisory Committee, which includes parents, community members and employees. I want to thank them for their hard work and dedication during this difficult process.”

Ott also applauds the efforts of parents and community members who have been communicating with the governor and local elected officials about the severity of the education cuts.

Information regarding the Governor’s budget and its impact to Rowland Unified can be found on Rowland Unified web site under Budget Update. There is also a place where the community can share their input by email to the superintendent and Budget Advisory Committee.
