The next meeting of the Hacienda Heights Improvement Association will feature a presentation about the San Jose Creek Communities Corridor Plan.
The association will meet 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20 in the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District Board Room, 15959 E. Gale Avenue, Hacienda Heights.
Blake Whittington of the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Rivers Watershed Council will talk about the proposal for a multipurpose corridor along the San Jose Creek. Public input is needed for a plan that will transform the San Gabriel Creek.
The San Jose Creek extends from Pomona to South El Monte. The communities of Hacienda Heights, Rowland Heights, Walnut, La Puente and Industry are affected.
In addition to a special presentation each month, the agenda also includes reports on community issues and from local elected officials’ representatives.

Harold the Healthy Hound presents “How to be Healthy – A Playful Puppet Show on Hygiene for Children” on Monday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Villacorta Elementary School in La Puente.
The show will be presented by the Rowland Unified School District’s First 5 Program.
First 5 is designed to help parents prepare their children from birth to age 5 for school. It provides resources, educational/literacy programs, and child-development information, as well as access to medical services, special needs referrals, and parent group support.
Resource kits are available free of charge, in multiple languages with videos and materials to enhance the skills of parents. The First 5 Story Mobile van visits local neighborhoods, providing a variety of literacy experiences for preschool children.
Come enjoy a day of music as you watch more than 22 High School Bands from across Southern California perform and compete in the 38th Annual Rowland Field Show Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the high school stadium.
This year there will even be a special performance by the UCLA Marching Band! The Rowland Raider Regiment will also perform its “Hearbeat” Show.
The tournament is the major fundraiser for the Rowland Raider Regiment. It helps pay for uniforms, competitions and instruments.

The Hacienda Heights Library will celebrate the movie release of “The Secret Life of Bees” with a beeswax candle-making party. Teens in grades 6 and up are welcome to attend the party at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17
Participants will receive free screening passes. The library is at 16010 La Monde St.
