Shelyn’s new MONETary program

Does you appreciate the appreciate the great paintings of Monet?

Sure most are only found in big art museums, but that’s not stopping Shelyn Elementary in Rowland Heights from studying Monet in its next Meet the Masters program.

The assemblies start at 8:50 a.m. Friday and continue throughout the day. Who knows, maybe we have our own budding artist who will be inspired by one of the great masters.

How would you like these guys at your class reunion?

The Rowland Heights community is invited to attend a special “Hall of Fame” ceremony at Rowland High School to recognize outstanding alumni on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

The ceremony will be held in the school library before the Homecoming Football game at 7 p.m.

The inductees for this year are: Lt. Colonel Patrick Matthews (Class of 1984), Uleses C. Henderson Jr. (Class of 1989), and Anthony Stevens (Class of 1993).

Established in 1991, the Rowland High School Hall of Fame honors the outstanding success of former students. These graduates excel in their chosen fields of endeavor and have made significant contributions to society.

Nominations arrive from a variety of sources and a selection committee reviews the nominations and makes the final selection.

Seniors enjoy trip to casino

Seniors feeling lucky will enjoy a trip to Pala Casino on Tuesday with the Friends of the Steinmetz Senior Center in Hacienda Heights.

The friends will depart at 8 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. from the Steinmetz Senior Center, 1545 S. Stimson Ave.

Taiwanese teachers welcomed

A delegation from Taiwan will be visiting the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District over the next two weeks.

The Asian educators will visit many of our schools to learn more about our educational techniques. Their trip begins with a welcome ceremony Monday morning in the district offices.

The officials from Taiwan will also visit the County Supervisors meeting and attend several other meetings as well.

Classical guitar concert an afternoon delight

Enjoy the sounds of classical music at a series of guitar concerts offered by advanced students of the Classical Guitar Program of the Thornton School of Music, University of Southern California.

The free concerts will be held the first Saturdays of each month, beginning Oct. 2 at 3 p.m.

During these free concerts, the community will experience the delightful historic repetoire of the classical guitar. Refreshments will be provied by the Friends of the Hacienda Heights Library.

Industry Pro Rodeo helps kids

Yeehaw!!!! Support the Gabriel Foundation and its contributions to local kids’ programs by attending the Industry Hills Pro Rodeo at the Industry Hills Expo Center in Industry on Oct. 11, 12.

Gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, with the rodeo starting at 6 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 12, gates open at noon for a 2 p.m. rodeo start.

Parking is free. The daily entry is $15 for adults, $6 for children ages 3-11, and $10 for seniors 60 and over.

Come enjoy the rodeo competitions, as well as refreshments, pony rides, a petting zoo, clowns, and Western-themed concessions.

Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com, or at the Industry Hills Pro Rodeo Office, 16200 Temple Ave., Industry. Tickets are also available at the arena on the event days.
