Mariachi Divas perform at Puente Hills Concerts in Park

The Puente Hills Concerts in the Park begin Tuesday, July 7, in Schabarum Regional Park. Concerts start at 7 p.m.

The first act will be Hacienda Height’s own Mariachi Divas, the Grammy Award-winning all female mariachi band.

Sponsored by Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department and Supervisor Don Knabe, this popular series presents free musical concerts.

The concerts are a great way to spend summer evenings with family and friends. Admission and parking are free. Food, drink and desserts are available.

Fourth of July parade steps off in Hacienda Heights

The 22nd Annual Hacienda Heights Fourth of July Parade begins 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The parade marches down Stimson Avenue, beginning at Colima Road and ending at Steinmetz Park.

Post parade activities will follow in the park. Local organizations set up different booths for kids and families to enjoy.

The annual parade is sponsored by local Kiwanis Club as well as many other local civic and church groups.

Summer programs set at Youth Science Center in Hacienda Heights

The Youth Science Center teaches hands-on science at Wedgeworth Elementary School in Hacienda Heights. The 2009 summer schedule is already under way.

Many interesting science classes are being offered in four sessions weekdays through July 30. The schedules will have been be posted at www. youthsciencecenter.org, but no online registration is available.

Puppet show at Rowland Heights Library

The Rowland Heights Library will hold a puppet show for children at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Someone has been replacing creative works of art with cheap imitations. With help from the kids in the audience, Art the Puppy has to locate the lost treasures and find the culprit.
Seating is limited, with priority given to children in in kindergarten to sixth grade.

Teens can enjoy an anime day on Wednesday, July 7, at 3 p.m. Those who enjoy manga will view anime in the community room.

Wildlife romps through Hacienda Heights Library

The Hacienda Heights Library presents “The Wildlife Company Animal Show” at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Its annual Summer Reading Program has started with programs are divided by age groups. Children read on their own time and report their progress. They can read books, magazines, manga, poetry and much more to earn incentives.
