Southlands Christian School helps Hacienda Heights Kiwanis

Southlands Christian School in Rowland Heights is helping out the Hacienda Heights Kiwanis Club this morning by contributing $500 to their shoes for kids program.

The students have been collecting money for local kids since the school year began. Their generosity will allow the Kiwanis to buy many more shoes for needy children in the area.

The Christian school also collected toys for local families, as well as shoeboxes full of gifts for children in Mexico. They really have the Christmas spirit.

Plans for Rowland High pool unveiled

Just saw the architect’s renderings for the new swimming pool at Rowland High School. The new facility will be awesome. The school board saw the drawings at Tuesday’s meeting.

The entry courtyard is a visual treat with palm trees and circular courts. With construction bids running up to 10 percent lower than expected, the district hopes to add two more swimming lanes, bringing the total to an even dozen.

New changing rooms, covered bleachers and equipment areas will make for a great athletic addition to the local high school. The high school’s pool was closed last year when school officials discovered how much it would cost to fix.

Looks like the wait will be worth it for the Raiders. Trying to get digital copies now.

Assemblyman Hagman to discuss tower construction in Rowland Heights

The Rowland Heights Community Coordinating Council will meet Monday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m. at Pathfinder Community Regional Park in the upper community building.

The regular agenda has been revised in order to accommodate a special report by Assemblyman Curt Hagman. Curt recently was able to get the Public Utilities Commission to put a halt to further Southern California Edison tower construction pending a review of the route for the transmission line.

He will be dropping by to bring our community up to date regarding that situation, and what we might do to facilitate the effort to get the transmission line route changed (or at least get the two towers affecting our community center site moved to a different location).

This will tie directly to the planned presentation regarding the status of our Community Center construction project. Scott Stevenson, acting director of the L.A. County Construction Management Division of the Community Development Commission will provide an update on the status of the Rowland Heights Community Center project to be built at Pathfinder Park.

The CHP will be on hand to collect donations of unwrapped new toys and sporting goods for their CHiPs For Kids program.
