They must really love basketball. On the first day of summer vacation, Rowland youngsters returned to school for the summer basketball camp.

No sleeping in for the young hoopsters, starting at 8:30 a.m. in the Rowland High gym. The sleepy-eyed youngsters lined up for head basketball coach Gordon Hamlow and assistant varsity coach Jason Villanueva.

“I wanted to start a summer basketball program 10 years ago. This is our third year for the recreation program,” Hamlow noted. “I just want the kids to have fun and enjoy basketball. This is what I did while growing up in Glendora.”

The kids bounded back and forth across the floor as they warmed up. The happy campers ranged in age from 5 to 14 years old.
